The present GSM Network is 3G HSDPA enabled and hence can provide high data rate to mobile customers. 

We have recently added 1 million lines capacity in GSM network at Delhi and Mumbai.The installation of additional 1 million capacity is under progress in both the places.

I am glad to inform you that MTNL is the first operator in India to launch the 3G services. The 3G service has been commercially launched with the brand name "Jadoo". In addition, to better and efficient utilization of spectrum, the 3G services will offer various host of services to the subscribers like Video telephony, High Speed Mobile Broadband, Mobile TV, Video Streaming, Video On Demand, On line Gaming etc.

2.  Broadband is the buzz word today. We are proud that MTNL is quite ahead in Broadband services having a subscriber base of 0.768 million customers. At the end of Dec,2009, MTNL is ranked 2^nd in Broadband service on All India basis and largest Broadband service provider in Delhi & Mumbai.

3. MTNL has been in the forefront to launch new technologies for the benefit of customers. MTNL has launched ‘Voice over Internet Telephony’ (VoIP) Service all over the world which provides ISD call at a very cheap rate to more than 168 countries. 

Similarly, MTNL has launched ‘Internet Protocol Television’ (IPTV). IPTV technology has now matured and nearly 14,200 customers in Delhi & Mumbai have subscribed to this service. IPTV gives quality TV viewing at affordable rates. IPTV also provides other services like Video on Demand, Time-Shift TV, Audio on Demand etc.

4.  MTNL shall be rolling out ‘Fibre to the Home’ (FTTH) network to meet the high bandwidth requirement for both data and video applications of its customers on the reliable media of optical fiber.

5. Modern Next Generation Switch has also been commissioned in 2008-09 and will pave the way for all IP based converged Network enabling MTNL to provide new services at cheaper rates.

6. Recently, MTNL has launched m-commerce services. Various futuristic applications like Bill payment, Railway Reservations, money transfer etc. are possible through this technology while on the move.

7. In line with the present trend, MTNL is also providing a host of value added services to its GSM customers like Mobile TV, News, Weather, Cricket, Astrology, Chat, MMS, Polyphonic ring tones, video ring tones, video games, PNR alerts, commodity, stock status, booking of movies ticket, GPRS,  and e-mail access etc.

8. Today is an era of Internet and transparency. In line with the policy of the e-governance, MTNL has made provision for subscribing the various services (PSTN, GSM, Dolphin connections etc), complaint booking, complaints tracking, payment etc On-line via Internet. This is not only convenient but very cost effective to the customers.

9. MTNL has been reviewing its tariffs frequently inline with the competition. Some of the plans like Vidyarathi, Jeevan Saathi etc have been quite popular.

10.  I am happy to share with you that MTNL is expanding its operations in both domestic as well as Overseas markets. MTNL is operating in Nepal through a Joint venture called UTL (United Telecom Limited) & is also operating in Mauritius through a 100% subsidiary called MTML (Mahanagar Telephone Mauritius Limited). MTNL & STPI have joined hands for setting up data centre for data-Farming applications through a newly opened company MTNL-STPI Ltd with 50-50% equity participation.

11.  MTNL through Millennium Telecom Limited (MTL) is also planning to lay Submarine OFC Cable from India to South East Asia and to Middle East with an aim for onward connectivity to Europe and USA.
